#14 of 23 hotels in Gloucester based on Tripadvisor

6.6/10

I had a mixed experience at the hotel. The rooms were basic but clean and spacious, with a good shower and clean towels daily. However, there were some issues like shredded fabric on the bed base and a burnt-out plug socket. The location was convenient, right in the heart of Gloucester, but some parts felt in decline. The service was not the friendliest, though efficient, and the breakfast quality varied. The dining experience was hit or miss, and the lack of some essential items was noticeable.

The hotel was ideally located in the city center, making it convenient to explore. The rooms had a quirky charm but lacked the advertised period beams. They were kept clean but would benefit from an update. The staff provided helpful service, although the area manager was unapproachable. The breakfast was enjoyable and excellent value for money. The facilities were adequate, with room for improvement.

The hotel is very central in the middle of the city, offering clean and warm rooms that are secure. The great breakfast is a plus, but the noisy nights can disturb your sleep.

7.0/10

The hotel is centrally located, making it convenient for exploring Gloucester, although it could use some upgrades. The service was friendly and accommodating, but the rooms may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. The dining experience was pleasant, and the hotel could do with some improvements to bring it up to a higher standard.

Rooms
6.0
The rooms from the central courtyard were cold and had old, stained carpets. They left an extra heater in the room, which helped but made the air dry and caused discomfort in the morning.
Service
7.0
The staff from the 'Ibis' chain were very helpful, nothing was a problem, although the room needed some TLC. The bed was creaky and cheap.
Location
8.0
The location is convenient to many restaurants in the heart of Gloucester, although it could use a little tender loving care to bring it up to a higher standard. It is right on the busy high street, making shopping and exploring easy.
Dining
7.0
The dining experience in the heart of Gloucester was nice with great character, but there could be a better food selection. Overall, it was good but could be improved.
Facilities
The facilities could do with some upgrades to bring them to a decent standard, requiring a great deal of investment.

The hotel's rooms were exceptionally clean, which was a real plus point. However, they need a little TLC as they were not as expected - certainly not like the pictures. The bathroom was disgusting, with the shower full of mold, shower door handle hanging off, and shower control not working properly. Hardly any water flush on the toilet, the sink plug hanging off, dirty floor, carpet, and broken stool. Overall, every area of this hotel needed a good clean; it was extremely dirty. I was expecting an old building, but not a dirty one. I would never stay here again. The breakfast room was not appealing, and there was nothing good to say. The approach to the hotel was not appealing either, and everything was locked up by 10 pm; I had to use a side alley to get in. The staff kindly gave us a radiator when we found out the heating did not work.

The rooms were exceptionally clean, which was a real plus point, but they need a little TLC and were not as expected.
Service
6.0
The staff were very helpful and carried my large suitcase upstairs/downstairs; however, they were talking in public about staffing issues and sending a 'trauma' team to clean a room.
Location
7.0
The hotel's location was great and right in the center of the town, with easy access to shopping, docks, cathedral, and eating venues. However, there were some downsides like the lack of certain amenities like stirrers, toilet brush, and shower mat.
Dining
5.0
The dining experience was not up to standard, and the buffet breakfast was cold due to cold plates, with limited options. The quality of the food was disappointing for the price.
Facilities

The hotel's facilities need improvement in terms of cleanliness and maintenance.

My stay at the hotel had its positives and negatives. The room, although spacious and comfortable, lacked a nice view and some privacy due to facing a yard where delivery activities were visible. The service was friendly, but there were some lapses in providing necessary information. The location was excellent for exploring Gloucester, but late-night noise could be heard. The dining experience had historical charm but was limited in availability. Overall, a mixed experience with room for improvement.

Rooms
7.0
The room was large, clean, and very comfortable, but the view facing a yard with delivery men reduced privacy. The stained carpet and worn lamp shades were drawbacks.
Service
6.0
The staff were friendly, but there were shortcomings in providing information such as directions to certain areas.
Location
8.0
The hotel's location was centrally positioned, making it easy to explore Gloucester on foot. However, noise from outside could be disruptive at night.
Dining
5.0
The dining area had historical charm, but the availability of options was limited. Some services ran out before early morning departures.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel had indoor and outdoor seating areas, creating a charming atmosphere. However, some services were unavailable early in the morning.
